HISTORY OF UDUMALAI

History

       The district was set up in 1918 and moved up to second grade region in 1970. It was announced as a first grade region in 1979 and further moves up to determination review district in 1984. The degree of the region is 7.41 kmsq of which 6.582 sqkm is urban and 0.828 sqkm is country. The city was a piece of Coimbatore region until 2008 when it turned out to be a piece of the recently framed Tiruppur region, a change which was contradicted by the residents.

Geography


Udumalai is encompassed by Western Ghats on three sides. The normal elevation of the town is 1208 feet above MSL. The geology is undulated and general incline is from west to North. Dark mud soil is the transcendent soil of the territory. The town gets real precipitation amid the south west storm time frame. The normal yearly precipitation is 501.40 mm. Dark and red soil sorts are found in the town. The dirt contains a greater amount of alumina and gypsum. While dark soil region is used for horticulture, the zones with red soil has more urbanized uses.
